Benefits of Home Care

From keeping your loved one company to ensuring there is someone around to help take a loved one to the doctor when you cannot be there. There are many benefits to choosing in-home senior care with My Home Helper RGV. More than 65 million Americans seek to balance the daily demands of work, home, children and caring for someone who may be living with an illness, disability or simply aging. In-home care is a safe, affordable option for families that provides them the support they need while allowing their loved ones to stay in the comfort of their own homes and communities.

Medication Reminders

Are medications being taken at the correct times, or at all? The #1 reason people move into facilities is inability to take medications per doctors’ orders. Our Caregivers can remind clients to take medications correctly, assist them to reorder, and pick up from the pharmacy. If family is unavailable to fill medication boxes, My Home Helper RGV can refer you to outside services for medication management and oversight.

Hygiene, Bathing, Dressing, Grooming, Exercise

As part of the initial evaluation, we will determine the client’s preferred routine for daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming and hygiene, at all levels, whether it be verbal reminders or extensive hands-on care. Because we are guests in our clients’ homes, we want to honor preferences, routines, and traditions, as maintaining a sense of normalcy is vital. Have there been, falls or trips to the ER? Let us help ensure that your loved one is maintaining day to day activities, and can remain safely at home. Caregivers could even assist clients to continue physical therapy exercises in order to maintain mobility and reduce the risk of falls.

Nutrition, Hydration and Homemaking

Are you concerned about special diet needs, weight loss following doctors’ orders? Our Caregivers can assist with the daily tasks of meal planning, preparation, fluid intake and ensuring a clean, healthy home environment. While we aren’t dieticians, we can follow basic dietary guidelines when preparing food like “no added salt”, “low carbohydrates”, fluid restrictions, or avoiding foods that are contraindicated with certain medications. We will also help with daily/weekly household chores like laundry, dishes, vacuuming, taking the garbage to the curb, etc. We believe that a healthy client needs a healthy environment.

Errands, Activities and Doctor Appointments

Let us help with grocery shopping (includes ordering curbside), trips to the pharmacy and physicians’ offices. We also provide assistance with errands, personal shopping, social outings, exercise routines and gym visits, club activities, movies, and other meaningful activities in the home. As appropriate, our Caregivers can even help facilitate virtual family visits for relatives.

Coordination with in-home medical services

We will work alongside hospice and home health to pick up care where they leave off and communicate concerns or changes in conditions to the appropriate agency representative. Should we identify the need for home nursing or therapy services, we will provide you with a short list of trusted agencies in town, which would be paid for by medical health insurance. During the evaluation, we may make recommendations for safety in the home like furniture adjustments, lighting, or clutter removal. If the client’s family lives out of town or needs more extensive oversight beyond the realm of home care, we will refer to Aging Life Care professionals to help the family manage any complex dynamics.

Comfort of Home

Nine out of ten Americans 65 and older want to stay at home for as long as possible, and 80 percent think their current home is where they will always live. Working with a home care agency like My Home Helper can allow your loved one to receive the care they need while in the comfort of their own home while preserving their dignity and maintaining a good quality of life.

Independence

Professional caregivers enable your senior loved one to enjoy living independently longer. The services offered allow seniors to receive day-to-day help with the personal care they need and assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, and medication reminders. Ultimately, this benefits you by keeping your loved one safe, healthy, engaged and active.

Personalized Care

Home care services provide meaningful, one-on-one care that helps to build strong relationships between a My Home Helper caregiver and their clients. We match our caregivers’ experience, skills set, and personality to your loved one’s needs. Our service schedules are extremely flexible to ensure your senior receives the care they need, when they need it. The result is a consistent, working relationship so beneficial that our clients often consider their caregiver to be a part of their family.

Peace of Mind

If you are caregiving from a distance, working with an in-home care agency for your senior can help you to feel confident that your loved one is cared for when you can’t be there. Trained and qualified caregivers can assess safety risks and make simple corrections in the home to ensure your loved one is able to get around easily without the potential for injury. We are committed to providing your loved ones with increased care as their needs change to ensure their quality of life and your peace of mind.

Social Interaction

Research shows that aging adults stay healthier with social interaction. Feelings of isolation are a major problem among aging Americans. A caregiver’s companionship can impact not only physical well-being, but emotional health as well. Our caregivers can become trusted friends for walks, reading, cards, games, movies, meals, and other social activities.

Prevent Falls

Falls are the number one cause of emergency room visits for people age 65 and over. They can easily happen when a senior is attempting a simple household task such as reaching for a high shelf or carrying something down the stairs. Hiring a caregiver to assist a loved one with these everyday tasks can help to prevent accidents that can potentially lead to serious injury.

Better Senior Care

My Home Helper enjoys an excellent reputation for service within our community and professional circles. We work with many local doctors, nurses, social workers, and other health care professionals who regularly refer their patients in need of help. We are experts in the home care field and value building strong relationships with our clients and their families.
